CHAPTER FIVE

The Adventures of a Missionary Girlfriend

Hello again, fellow bloggers! I haven't posted anything in a while, I've been suuuuuuuper busy! Not to mention I a little bit ran out of things to blog about... (I know, ALREADY.) But I thought of some more things to write about so I'm back! This time, I'm going to talk about more letter ideas, but more focused on just one type of letter. You guessed it! I'm going to be focusing a little more on Open When Letters.

Opev When Letters are basically exactly what they sound like; letters for your missionary to open when he needs to hear a certain thing from you. Here are just a few ideas of Open When Letters you could make for your missionary.

Possible topics for an Open When Letter:

Open When: “You've accomplished something great.” For this topic, you could write things like “I am so incredibly proud of you.” or “Congratulations, darling.” And things like that. Just let him know how proud of him you are, and that all of his accomplishments mean a lot to you. Nothing super specific, just a little pre-determined support for him, it could help him a lot.

Open When: “You need to hear how much I love you.” This topic is kind of self explanatory, just write all of the (good) feelings that you have for him. How much he means to you, how much you love him, what you love about him, how much you care about him, and stuff like that. It probably wouldn't hurt if this one was long, sometimes people just need to hear about how much they're loved.

Open When: “You feel scared or discouraged.” Remind him why he's out there. Tell him how proud you are of him for deciding to go on a mission. Remind him that you're there for him whenever he needs it, and he can write you a letter or an email to you and you're happy to talk to him about anything he needs. Remind him that he's serving the Lord, and that He loves him, and will always be there for him, and will help him with whatever problems he might face. Just write him things that could make him feel better if he was upset or scared.

But I thought of some more things to write about so I'm back! This time, I'm going to talk about more letter ideas, but more focused on just one type of letter. You guessed it! I'm going to be focusing a little more on Read When Letters.

Read When Letters are basically exactly what they sound like; letters for your missionary to read when he needs to hear a certain thing from you. Here are just a few ideas of Read When Letters you could make for your missionary.

Possible topics for a Read When Letter:

Read When: “You've accomplished something great.” For this topic, you could write things like “I am so incredibly proud of you.” or “Congratulations, darling.” And things like that. Just let him know how proud of him you are, and that all of his accomplishments mean a lot to you. Nothing super specific, just a little pre-determined support for him, it could help him a lot.

Just write him things that could make him feel better if he was upset or scared.

Read When: “You miss me.” In this letter, you could put a bunch of pictures of you, and letters or items that would remind him of you. For instance, you could send him a card from your favorite game, or you could send him a piece of paper with your usual perfume sprayed on it, and things like that. You could write him a letter in there telling him that you'll see him soon, and remind him how fast time flies. Just make him feel loved, but don't make him feel like he shouldn't have left.

Read When: “You need a laugh.” In this letter, you could send him silly pictures, write silly things for him, and/or draw him a silly picture. Just write him funny little things, I'm sure it could help someday.

Read When: “You miss (insert hometown here).” For this topic, you could write him a few little things about the town that he could remember. Fun places you two used to go, and things like that. Maybe a postcard or a few pictures of stuff in your town. And anything else that's memorable about where he's from.

Read When: “You've been gone for six months and/or a year.” In these letters, you could just tell him how proud you are of him, and how happy you are that the two of you have gotten this far. Just happy celebratory things. Maybe a few pictures of you excited or celebrating.

Read When: You have six months until you come home.” Tell him how excited you are to see him, and how happy you are for him. Just tell him how much you love him and how happy you are that you two got this far. Make him excited to come home and see you again, basically.

Last, but not least Read When: “You're on your way home.” For this topic, you could write to him about how proud you are of him for making such an amazing accomplishment. Send him a picture of you the day that you wrote it (or just a recent picture of you; how he would remember you) for him to compare to you on the day that he comes home. Just tell him how excited you are, and that you can't wait to see him and hold him and kiss him again. Don't forget to tell him how much you love him!

And that's about it for this blog post! Thank you for reading! I hope that this post helped some of you! In my next blog post I'll show how to make homemade envelopes to put these Open When letters in. Thank you for reading! If you have any questions or comments for me I'd be more than happy to answer them!
